Recent Snapshots From the House of Tumors

Tragic incident at the Crayola factory.

Dead rodent wig casually tossed on the bed after an outing: the dogs bark at it, then run away. (God help us all if it ever barks back. I have enough issues about the damn thing as it is.)

Plummeting neutrophils: Germ mask and obsessive Lysol in kitchen.

Germ mask up close. Hello, Howard Hughes!

Wacky velvet hat with purple rose.

Large mediastinal tumor in September (before chemotherapy or port installation--no more spaghetti straps for me) causing sternum and rib cage to bulge out in front. Hell YES, it hurt! (The gross bulge is completely gone now, after two treatments.)

Egghead! I love it! But am I supposed to be polishing it, or buffing it, or exfoliating it or anything? My scalp grooming knowledge is embarrassingly minimal.

Solidarity!

More (somewhat reluctant) solidarity. But they don't know squat about scalp grooming either.

I'm glad to see the dogs are doing their part! Love the velvet hat. I have an unfortunate addiction to hats with silk flowers on them, but then again, I don't have your perfectly shaped cranium.

I was thinking on your cold head problem. Have you tried a polar fleece hat at night? It isn't as stretchy as terry cloth, so maybe it might stay on better through the nocturnal tossing and turning.

No. I guess I just hoped maybe wearing bright colors would cheer me up, help get me through one more day.

Wow! you and the dogs are able to rock wigs and jaunty cloches!!! You know, we don't have WalMart in SF and I feel like there is probably a huge cultural gap, make that a gaping chasm, in my life.

My friends from other parts of the world ask me about WalMart and I have to turn the topic to Costco- because we have Costco! When the rest of my family (Texas and Wisconsin) talk about WalMart adventures I have to make up my own images in my head to compliment their narrative.

Glad to see you are back blogging.

Thank you for stopping by my site, I appreciate your thoughts on the topic of beauty and American culture.

I'm sort of dumbfounded at the moment. As a recent cancer survivor, witnessing your story here is...well, right now I can't find the words for it. It is scary as hell, and I'm still trying to come to grips with the effect cancer has had, not only my physical body, but whatever spirit resides within. I'm wishing you strength and love. I'll be checking in on you.

Thanks again, hope you come back by.

Just don't let it get sunburned. The itching. The peeling. The increased opportunities for cancers in new and unexpected places. Gah.

Glad to see you're still rocking your colors.

What Sara said: Sunscreen, honey! Even in winter. And if you can't keep a fleece hat on at night, maybe you could persuade one of the dogs to sleep on your head?

The pink babushka really is quite charming. You might start a fad if you wore one instead of that wig.

Good to see you back.
