The Return of Goldilocks

Time again for the next installation of our gripping Monday Morning Hair Watch:

February 5th, 2007

March 26th: Thick on top

Thick around the swirl

But still ridiculously thin and sparse and translucent around the edges...

Rendering it pretty much invisible from more than 18 inches away. Hell.

In other exciting post-cancer news:

I have an appointment to have my hideous port removed on May 1st!

I also have a new prescription for Cymbalta (duloxetine HCL) which is supposed to help with the pain from the peripheral neuropathy. If this doesn't work, I may need to go see a neurologist as the pain seems to be getting progessively worse instead of better.

And I'm very sad and worried about my beloved brainhell, who is not doing well these days. Please send your best thoughts to him and his family.

Your hair's looking great. I predict that within 2 months, the compulsive hair-cutting thing will come back into play.

You're returning to the hair and now.
Lovely.
Stylish.
I can see it clearly: another month or two and the newest Vidal Sassoon National Model for Tonsorial Nurturance will be writing in your stead.

Your progress is amazing! I'd suggest that you consider
B-Complex vitamins and B12 in particular for neuropathy. You may need to use a stronger quantity of B12, like 3 mgs/day. Check with a doctor who knows about such things. As I recall, St John's Wort also had success treating traumatized nerves.
Stay well.

I think your hair looks cute, and by cute I mean it looks like you could have gotten it cut to that length. Who's that woman who plays Catwoman? Oh, what's her name? Dang it. Oh, yeah! Halle Berry. She had her hair that short for a while. So yours could very well be a style choice. I like it.

Your regrowth is awesome! And it's not all kinky and salt and pepper as so many people get. Yes, I know it is color-assisted, but the texture looks superb. Have you done any mousse and hair gel experiments yet? Spiky and blonde - growr!
Don't take Neurontin for the PN if you can avoid it - it's an evil drug (somehow a kissin' cousin to Decadron in its side efects), IME.

I'm currently at that oh-so-fun "hair follicles are electro-buzzing" stage immediately pre-fallout. I only wish I could look forward to the classic head shape you have. I fear it will look more Uncle Fester-ish.

I cannot tell you how happy I am on Mondays when there is a "Hair post"

I think you should take pictures EVERYDAY FROM NOW ON and then animate it all together, like that guy who took pictures of his transformation from geek to hulk over 2 years. (BTW, what's his web address? I would like to check up on him too!)

See you next Monday, if not before!

Your hair looks wonderful! I would love to cut mine, and that short would be my preference. Hey, please write about the cymbalta after you are taking it for awhile and let us know if it is working for you--I have neuropathy, and am looking for something that WORKS. I love your blog, I stumbled across it just a couple of months ago, you are such a strong and amazing woman. Keep up the great writing---Jamie

You look great!

About the PN... Everyone is different. I tried Neurontin first and the side effects really snuck up on me; suffice it to say it was not pleasant. I am on Cymbalta now and I no longer have the numb toes or stabbing pains in my feet. My feet are still hot, so it's not perfect but it's better than anything else I've tried. I recommend the book Numb Toes and Aching Soles: Coping with Peripheral Neuropathy, which I bought on Amazon.com. This book give a pretty good overview of all of the medications and alternative treatments that have been tried. He also shares personal anecdotal reviews of the treatments from people he interviewed.

Good luck with the PN - I know how awful it is, because I've had it for years. My medication DR. told me that she doesn't know of anyone that was "cured" but at least you should find some relief. And if the Cymbalta doesn't work, you can try one of the others: Nortriptyline works well for my Mom.
